Do not let urgency remove verification

Post-storm demand can make qualified contractors difficult to schedule. Take time to confirm identity, license scope, insurance, and permit responsibility even when temporary protection is needed quickly.

• Photograph damage before cleanup or temporary repairs.
• Separate emergency stabilization from permanent reconstruction.
• Get the legal business name and license number in writing.
• Avoid large cash payments or pressure to decide immediately.
• Confirm who will pull permits and schedule inspections.

Compare scope, not only price

Two storm-repair estimates may describe very different work. Compare quantities, code upgrades, drying or remediation, disposal, temporary protection, materials, and warranty terms.

Keep one complete project file

Save photographs, estimates, contracts, change orders, proof of payment, insurance correspondence, permits, inspection records, warranties, and contractor communications.
